What the app is, and what it is not
IPTV Smarters Pro is one of the most widely used IPTV player apps. It is worth being precise about what that means, because a great deal of confusion online comes from getting it wrong.
| It is | It is not |
|---|---|
| A player — it displays a stream you point it at | A service. It carries no channels of its own |
| Empty until you enter credentials | A subscription. It sells nothing |
| Available for Android, iOS, Fire TV and desktop | Guaranteed to be on every smart TV store |
| Free to install in the usual stores | The only option — see choosing a player |
Any version advertised as including channels is not the player as published. Install from an established app store, and get the credentials separately from whatever service you have arranged.
Which login type to choose
The first screen offers a choice, and picking the wrong one accounts for a large share of failed setups. What decides it is what your service gave you.
| You were given | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A server address, a username and a password | Login with Xtream Codes API | Fetches channels, guide and on-demand library, and refreshes when the line-up changes |
One long URL containing username= and password= | Load Your Playlist or File URL | Loads a static list. Simpler, but goes stale |
| Both | Xtream Codes | Always the better of the two when it is offered |
Field by field
For the Xtream Codes option:
- Any name. A label for you only. It is not checked against anything, and it does not have to match your account.
- Username. Exactly as supplied, including case. Watch for a space added at the end by autocomplete.
- Password. The same warning applies, and it is harder to spot because the field is masked.
- URL / server address. The whole thing, including
http://orhttps://and including the port number after a colon. No trailing slash.
For the playlist option there is one field: the complete M3U URL, pasted whole. Everything after ? is part of it.
Typing an 80-character address with a remote control is where most errors are introduced. Several apps offer a pairing or transfer feature so you can enter the details on a phone instead. It is worth finding.
When it will not log in
"Invalid username or password" almost never means the password is wrong. In order of likelihood:
| Cause | What to look for | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Trailing space | Invisible. Introduced by autocomplete or the on-screen keyboard | Backspace once more in each field |
| Missing port | example.com where the service uses example.com:8080 | Add the colon and the port |
| Trailing slash | http://example.com:8080/ | Remove the final slash |
| Wrong protocol | http entered where the service uses https, or the reverse | Use exactly what you were given |
| Stream limit reached | Another device is already playing on the same account | Close the other app fully, not just minimise it |
| Account genuinely expired | Everything else checks out | Contact the service |
The fifth row is worth dwelling on: if your subscription allows one simultaneous stream, a second app still playing counts as a second viewer. It presents as a login failure and is not one.
After the first load
- Give the guide time. The channel list appears quickly; the EPG can take considerably longer, sometimes hours on a large line-up.
- Check the clock. If the guide is exactly one or two hours out, it is a time-zone problem. Check the device's own time zone first, then look for an EPG time-shift setting in the app.
- Build a favourites list. With thousands of channels this is the difference between usable and unusable.
- If nothing plays but login succeeded, the credentials are fine and the problem is elsewhere — see where the chain breaks.
